The purpose of this site is to explore the phenomenon of Reverse Speech in order to determine if it is genuine. This will be done through the posting of audio examples of reverse speech. A linguistic analysis will be applied to each sample, and a discussion created. Linguistic analysis at this point will not include phonetic/phonemic script; however I may include this at a later date. Through the exploration of this phenomenon, I hope to:
- compare what is phonologically and linguistically sound, in reference to normal processes of natural speech, with aspects that are not sound
- identify in what ways it is similar to forward speech structures and processes, and in what ways it differs from forward speech
- identify specific characteristics and nuances of the phenomenon
Reverse Speech was discovered and developed by David Oates. The theory contends that the subconscious/unconscious communicates in the reversed sounds of forward speech, and provides important information concerning the speaker.
